Davison schools implement district-wide, year-round calendar

Davison Schools are going to a balanced, year-round calendar beginning with the 2016-17 school year.

The school board voted Monday, June 15, to change and make Davison the second school district in Genesee County — Beecher made the move in 2013 — to implement a year-round calendar. The goal is to shorten school breaks.

Tornado touches down briefly in Vernon Township Monday night

A small tornado touched down briefly Monday night while thunderstorms moved through Shiawassee County.

On Monday, June 15, an EF0 tornado with 65 mph winds touched down in Vernon Township, about three miles southeast of Durand. The National Weather Service said there was no warning in effect at the time, because the signature on the radar wasn't strong before or after the tornado.
